At the Music City Modern Quilt Guild meeting last weekend, we had an open sew and were encouraged to make name tags. I definitely appreciated an excuse to get my sewing machine up and running again, and a simple mini project was just what I needed. I brought some scraps to make a name tag using Twiggy and Opal’s tutorial for mini Polaroid blocks. These little blocks are adorable (not to mention addictive)!
Even from just the handful of scraps I brought with me, I couldn’t decide on just one idea. So I made two!
For the first one, I fussy cut a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2″ square of a pair of glasses. For the second one, I made some patchwork for the center. I embroidered my name at the bottom (where you would label a Polaroid photo, of course!), and instead of quilting or binding I just sewed the front and back together and turned out the right side. A couple lines of top stitching closed up the gap and a simple safety pin on the back finished them up.
Yes, I pressed the seams open! Normally I hate getting that fussy, but for such a tiny project I made the effort.
Such a fun little project, and so satisfying to finish them in one sitting. I had a minor freakout on Sunday when I wanted to take pictures but couldn’t find them anywhere. I turned the sewing room inside out, then did the same in the car… nothing. I messaged everyone sitting at the table with me the day before… nothing. I imagined all those church-goers trampling my little name tags that had most likely fallen in the parking lot… and then I cleaned out my purse and found them both tucked inside a pocket. Sigh… I hate when I’m too smart for my own good and think “I’ll just keep these safe where I’ll be sure to remember them”… somehow it never works that way.
I’m just glad to have them safe and sound… and next meeting, I can decide if I’m feeling like a smarty pants…

and everyone will know my name!
