Reading Life: October 2019

So this may be a new low… only one book read this month?! October felt like a marathon from beginning to end, from Amelia’s 3rd birthday to fall festivities, with two visits from family and a couple weeks of congestion thrown in for good measure.

Side tangent: does anyone else feel like Autumn is the new Christmas? Maybe it’s just because I’m deep into the SAHM world now and I wasn’t aware of all the stuff you’re supposed to be doing with your kids, but it seems like there are so many more activities that we “have” to do this season… pumpkin patches and hayrides and pumpkin decorating and fall festivals and trick or treating and costumes at every event… oh my. (And this year Amelia exercised full “threenager” rights and refused to wear any costume at all.) It’s all fun stuff, but no wonder I didn’t have any time to read! Hopefully next month will be a little less busy.

I’m no longer tracking my reading with daily photos, but I started an old school pen-and-paper journal to keep track of what I’m reading. It’s surprisingly therapeutic to write it down by hand! The Rosie Project meets After Life (Ricky Gervais’s Netflix show): quirky characters (Andrew is obsessed with model trains and Ella Fitzgerald) working a quirky job (performing home inspections after someone dies with no living relatives), dealing with some depressing stuff (grief/depression/family relationships) but in a mostly light-hearted way. Definitely a tricky balance that it mostly got right; sometimes I wanted it to move a bit faster and I’m not sure how long this one will stick with me, but it was funny and sweet.
