Read Every Day: Week 7 and 8

I’m back on track with my goal to read every day, and finally all caught up.

Here’s a look at what I read in Week 5 & 6 of 2018!

Week 7

Day 42: Finish Literally Me, by Julie Houts

Good stuff! There was a great mix of illustrations and short stories sprinkled throughout. The short story written one from the point of view of a fiddle leaf fig tree in a trendy store was my favorite for sure. Houts is a master of satirizing the modern woman as seen on tv and in magazines.

Day 43: Maniac Magee, by Jerry Spinelli

The 2018 Newbery winner was just announced, so I picked up my Newbery challenge again with a classic I’ve been meaning to reread for a while. I remember my fourth grade teacher reading this one aloud to us!

Day 44:  Maniac Magee, by Jerry Spinelli

It’s Valentine’s Day, Amelia has a fever/runny nose/ear infection, and I’m supposed to be packing for the quilting retreat this weekend, but instead I’m cleaning out all my kitchen cabinets and reading this book. Coping via procrastination at its finest.

I thought about packing this for the retreat, but I forgot and even though I had an eBook to read, I was too tired at the end of each day to read anything. So I missed three days of reading, but I’ve decided to keep on keepin’ on with my goal instead of getting hung up on the “every day” part. I’ll look back on those blank boxes and remember what a fun time I had sewing instead!

Week 8

Day 49: Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles

I like this book a lot, but I just wasn’t making any progress with the eBook, so I checked it out from the library instead. I used to read eBooks on my morning bus commute, but these days there are too many other distractions on my phone for eBooks to take precedence. Now that I’ve got a physical copy, I’m already making more headway. I still don’t know where this is going, but it’s safe to say that I wish I could be Katey Kontent!

Day 50: Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles

Amelia is still sniffly, recovering from our fun but off-routine weekend, and finally settled down for a much-needed nap. Curling up on the couch with a quilt and cup of coffee to read while it rains is as good as it gets.

Day 51: Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles

No time for reading thanks to those little hands, but I caught a few minutes during breakfast and lunch.

Day 52: Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles

Morning treat: a cup of coffee (still hot!) while Amelia entertains herself for five whole minutes.

Day 53: Finish Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles

I really loved this book! It’s hard to believe it’s a debut novel, it’s written so masterfully. I have a feeling I’ll be reading everything Towles writes from now on.

Day 54: Start We Are Never Meeting in Real Life, by Samantha Irby

A comedic collection of essays is never a bad idea.

Day 55: We Are Never Meeting in Real Life, by Samantha Irby

There’s nothing better than a lazy Sunday morning with a book, a donut, and a baby that sleeps in.
