My “read every day” resolution has lasted two whole weeks, woohoo! I think the sharing component is a big motivation for me; on days when I don’t feel like I have time to read, knowing that I have an unbroken string of days (and corresponding photos) behind me keeps me going. I still don’t intend to write weekly updates on the blog, but I’m having too much fun documenting what I’m reading every day… so maybe I will!
You can find these pics in my Instagram Stories too (although they disappear after 24 hours).
Here’s a look at what I read in Week 2 of 2018!
Day 8: Reading People, by Anne Bogel
I try to snatch a few minutes of reading time during breakfast, although I have to admit that I’m not always up for self reflection first thing in the morning. I like this book but I’m skimming the personality frameworks that I don’t find as interesting as others (looking at you, Strengthsfinder).
Day 9: Reading People, by Anne Bogel
I gave up on the chapter about the cognitive functions that the MBTI framework is based on; I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. Maybe I’m just not in the right mindset during this season of life to delve into my personality. Too often I ask myself, “Who am I anyway?”
Day 10: Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles
Back to fiction for some bedtime reading. I didn’t make it very far in the half hour before I fell asleep; I’m just too tired at the end of the day. But the characterization is fascinating, and I love the author’s way with dialogue!
Day 11: Reading People, by Anne Bogel
I’m on the next-to-last chapter and determined to finish this book, so Amelia and I learned about the enneagram during a lunchtime read-aloud session. Of all the personality frameworks discussed, this is the one that intrigues me the most.
Day 12: Finish Reading People, by Anne Bogel
Snow day = cozy day for curling up with a book! At least, that’s what I would do all day if there wasn’t a very active baby crawling around and getting into trouble. But I did manage to finish the last chapter of this book. It’s a good intro to the major personality frameworks, although it wasn’t as un-put-downable as I was hoping.
Day 13: Start Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates
I want to make room in my reading life for more challenging books, instead of always reaching for an easy read, so I turned to a book that’s been sitting on the bedside table since two Christmases ago. The first few pages are tough to read, but it’s a good thing to feel uncomfortable sometimes.
Day 14: Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates
I can’t stop reading this searing account of what it means to be black in America. Yesterday I couldn’t help but feel defensive as I read his thoughts on people “who believe they are white” but today I’m just trying to listen and absorb the words.
…
What are you reading? I’d love to hear about it!
Love the glimpse into your reading journey.
