Beach Reads

Vacation sure was fun, but getting back to the real world is always a doozy. I can’t quite muster the energy to gather all the beach pics together into a coherent post… maybe tomorrow!

What I can always muster some enthusiasm for is reading on the beach! There’s nothing better than losing a few hours with a good book with the sights and sounds of the beach in the background.  I like to bring quick, fun books that I’ve been meaning to read for a while – I brought a small stack with me (no electronics allowed!) but overpacked, of course – options are a must!

Here’s what I brought, and ended up reading –

Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

Loved it! The collected emails, notes, and letters that piece together the story of agoraphobic genius Bernadette’s disappearance were darkly funny and a delightful read. I spent an enjoyable couple days scarfing this down, and although it might not stick around in my brain for long, it was the perfect beach read.

The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty

This is the last of Liane Moriarty’s backlist that I haven’t read yet – and I have to admit the title has been putting me off. I brought the paperback but didn’t end up reading it after all.

I Am Hutterite: The Fascinating True Story of a Young Woman’s Journey to Reclaim Her Heritage, by Mary-Ann Kirkby

Instead, I picked up a book that my Mom finished reading on the trip and brought it home with me. I’ve never heard of the Hutterite community, but the author’s story of growing up in a tight knit group and later assimilating into American culture when her family left the Hutterites is fascinating so far.

Cheers to beach reading (and pretending I’m still there when I crack open a paperback)!

Quick note: I don’t have any intention of monetizing my blog, but I’m trying out the Amazon affiliate program on posts where I’m already linking to Amazon products – mostly books, of course! If you purchase anything on Amazon.com after clicking the link, I will get a small referral fee. Consider yourself disclosed!
